Biography
Debbie lives and works in a quaint beach community in New Jersey. She is married with three children and recalls always loving to draw. Her earliest inspirations in art came from an aunt who is an oil painter and her dad, who left the legacy of his hard work ethic as she watched him meticulously and skillfully complete projects including building furniture. A middle school teacher commissioned her to create a piece in pastels at the age of 13. Her first job title as a teen was Arts & Crafts Coordinator for a town-wide parks and recreation department. After studying painting in college with artist Harry I. Naar, www.harryinaar.com she went on to receive a B.A. Degree with a major in Fine Arts from Kean University. A move to the Jersey Shore in 1997 connected Debbie to several arts organizations that reignited her desire to paint after years of devotion to her family. She explored a 10 year period of commissions in portraiture and representational art now in private collections. Simultaneously, inspiring children in art became a focused commitment for many years. She designed workshops in art for all ages both in and out of her studio including organizations such as churches, homeschool groups and assisted living. In 2007 she completed and copyrighted “True Colors,” a simple yet sophisticated collection of small torn paper collages. After studying acting in 2008, she was inspired to take greater risks with her work resulting in an emerging style of highly textured expressive abstractions. She and her husband Tom were also instrumental at that time in planting a church in their community, Jersey Shore Calvary Chapel www.jscalvary.com. Debbie is convinced that her life paints a much bigger picture and embraces the fact that art, faith and life are inseparable. The beauty and simplicity of spirituality and relationship through faith in Christ fuels her passion to create and live with greater joy, vision and purpose, leading to doors of opportunity to show work in churches, galleries, corporations and various other arts venues. In 2011, Brian Fox Krawczyk, creative visionary and founder of Genealogy Beauty, LLC commissioned Deb as the first artist to interpret his brilliant vision “Holidiacious Happenings,” (one of four beauty collections to be launched in Genealolgy’s Woman of the Year 2012campaign) resulting in the completion of the piece “Celestial Celebration.” Aea Marc,Vice President of Product Development at Genealogy LLC writes, "The emotion she brings to her work makes Deborah the perfect artist to envision Genealogy's Year of the Woman 2012."
All Things New
“The creative and developmental process of my work is often challenging and invariably unpredictable. An aesthetic harvest of discernible images are wielded with a single palette knife while fearlessly taking risks with composition and color. A lavish amount of heavy pigments, muted dialogue, hours of relentless application of paint and deliberation are what determines the direction and ultimate complexion of each piece. The entire process is like diving into an infinite treasure trove of revelatory riches. That which surfaces is a refreshing sense of wonderment and playful delight.”
